The Education Authority (EA) has developed procedures and guidelines to assist Boards of Governors to manage redundancy situations and assist schools with meeting statutory and contractual obligations to their staff. Support is provided in respect of teaching and support staff in Controlled Schools and support staff in Maintained Schools.
A key part of that is the EA’s commitment is to seek redeployment, including the use of transferred redundancy, which is a process to facilitate the redeployment of an “at risk” employee through the release of a volunteer from another school.
School leaders / Board of Governors must consult with the relevant service within the EA prior to progressing any redundancy.
If an employee or a school leader requires further information, they can contact the EAaskHR Helpdesk.
* The transferred redundancy process operates in order to protect the jobs of employees who would otherwise be made redundant by transferring them to posts in other schools where an employee has expressed an interest in volunteering for redundancy but where no redundancy actually exists in their school.
